Situation:  Alvis Burkett, widow, lost husband about 8 years ago after prolonged illness.  Her home was in dire need of repairs long before hurricane Rita hit in 2005.  Since Rita she has lived with one of her daughters.

Ms. Burkett wishes to sell her home and use the money to fund her retirment, pay medical bills, and (possibly) nursing home expenses. 

Our Response:  The youth group of 1st UMC Houma will bring a team to Beaumont to work on the house.  We will be partnering with 1st Baptist of Beaumont and their college class.
Our Needs:

The youth group is in need of certain building materials for this project.  Your donations will be used for this AND for future projects.  You can donate in one of 3 ways.

1.  Donate a tool for us to keep. 
*if you have an extra ladder, saw, etc... we will keep these items and use them for future projects as well as this project.

2.  Loan us a tool.
*if you can't part with your tool forever, we would accept it as a loan.  Should your tool get lost or damaged we will replace it at no charge to you.

3.  Donate money.
*many people have asked if they can just donate money for us to purchase the necessary tools.

FAQS

Will there be mold in the home?
NO.  The house was not flooded during the storm.

Will my teenager be using a saw?
NO.  On my youth trips youth do not use power tools with blades.  These will only be used by adults.
